Elements of an Entryway
When you enter a home, you are first greeted by the entryway. The thought and care placed into the design of this space is so important. It should be welcoming, hospitable, and reflective of your personal style. It is the preview—the first impression for your entire home and it should say something about those who reside there.
Foyers come in all shapes and sizes. Some large and expansive, some narrow and small. Your entry may simply be a small spot on the wall with a mirror and shelf. Whatever the size, you have an opportunity to showcase your style with the curated pieces you choose.
Consider these elements when creating your own functional and beautiful entryway—
Table or dresser
This is your anchor piece. Go for something stylish and suitable for your everyday needs. If your foyer is more formal, a large round table is wonderful. If you need more storage, a chest with drawers is helpful for stowing away scarves, gloves and leashes.

Trays, bowls and baskets
Keep small items like mail, sunglasses, keys and phones organized by placing a beautiful container on your tabletop. Large urns and baskets are great for holding umbrellas, canes and boots.
Hooks and hangers
A place to corral hats, coats and bags is essential both for everyday and for your guests. If you don’t have a coat closet, a coatrack, hall tree or even wall hooks work well.

Lighting
There is nothing more welcoming than coming home at night to the soft glow of lamplight. Include an eye catching ceiling fixture, table lamp or sconces on the wall to create a cozy atmosphere.
Chair or bench
It is thoughtful and civilized to have a place to sit while putting on or taking off shoes. If you have the space, include a full size bench or settee. Smaller spaces might utilize a stylish chair or stool. We also love placing two ottomans under a console table when there is room.

Mirror or artwork
A mirror looks chic layered behind your table lamp and allows for a “last look” before you head out the door. Artwork can be placed on a tripod easel and switched out when you want a new look.

Rug
Here you can go bold with pattern or stay nice and neutral. Whatever you choose, your rug should be durable enough to stand up to mess and lots of foot traffic. We like wool, seagrass and indoor-outdoor rugs best.
